What Are VA Loans?

If you’re a military veteran or still in active service, you may qualify for a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) loan, which have lower closing costs, helping to keep your savings secure.

U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt endorsed and signed the Servicemen Readjustment Act in 1944, also known as the GI Bill of Rights. The purpose of The GI Bill of Rights in 1944 was to help United States veterans and their families by making the dream of homeownership a reality. Veterans and their families can achieve homeownership through VA loans, federally guaranteed home loans that require no down payment as long as the veteran meets the VA lending guidelines.

  •  Fixed-Rate Mortgage
  •   Adjustable-Rates Mortgage (ARM)
  • Low Down Payments
  •  Jumbo & Super Jumbo Loans
  • Terms of 15, 20, and 30 years are available for the fixed-rate mortgage products

What Credit Score Do I Need To Qualify For a VA Loan?

To qualify for a VA loan, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) does not set a minimum credit score requirement. However, individual lenders may establish their own credit score benchmarks for VA loan approval.

While the VA does not impose a specific credit score threshold, most VA lenders typically look for a credit score of at least 620. Nevertheless, some lenders may approve loans for borrowers with lower credit scores, often within the range of 580 to 600. It’s essential to note that meeting the lender’s credit score standards is crucial for VA loan approval.

Having a higher credit score can improve the chances of securing favorable loan terms and interest rates. Borrowers with lower credit scores might face greater scrutiny regarding their financial history, income stability, and overall creditworthiness.
